Dear Ms. Rica:
I know that you teach at a prestigious university here in Manila. Please help me with my problem. I have a sexual relationship with my professor. Sabi niya hiwalay na siya from his family (but not annuled) pero feeling ko may iba pa siya. Lagi siyang nawawala at hindi niya ko sinasagot kapag tinatanong ko siya. At first, I just wanted to get high grades. But now, I feel that I may be falling in love with him. Is this right?

Hi Top One,
Thank you for being honest with me. I am not one to say if what you’re doing is right or wrong. However, if your intention is to have high grades on your subject, it may be much better if you focus first on your academic work over your sexual relationship. That way, you would know that your grade is based on the knowledge and amount of learning that you showed in the classroom and not in the bedroom.
Now, having said that, baka kailangan na tignan mo muna ang sitwasyon objectively:
• He’s your professor;
• He has a legal wife;
• He’s always missing;
• He doesn’t like answering your questions;
• You feel that he has other women; and
• You’re falling in love with him.
Do these things mean anything to you? It seems like he’s avoiding confrontation, because he knows that whatever he does, he still has the power over your grades.
You’re in a very tricky situation, dear. Not only because he’s still married, but also because most universities prohibit these kinds of relationships. Kaya ang tanong, given all these complications – ito ba talaga ang gusto mo?
If you answer “yes” to this, and that this relationship is what you want to pursue, maybe it’s better to at least wait until he’s not your teacher anymore. Maybe during that time, you’ll be able to look at things more objectively, and be able to separate sex from love. Good luck! #takeitfromthesexymind
