The controversial killing of teenager Kian Loyd delos Santos in Caloocan City isn’t apparently all that it seems to be, according to President Duterte.
Duterte has bared that there was a “twist” in the case of Delos Santos, asking the public to wait for the truth to come out during the court proceedings.
“Kagaya ‘yung kay Kian na estudyante, well, you will know the truth, at least the version of the police, ‘pag mag-umpisa na ang trial,” Duterte said during the 6th Philippine Professional Summit at the historic landmark Manila Hotel last Thursday night.
“But it will not excuse or justify killing a person whose hands are raised, ready to surrender, or kneeling down because that is really murder. Pero may twist diyan,” he added.
Delos Santos was shot dead last Aug. 17 by police officers who claimed the teenager had fired at them during an anti-drug operation in Caloocan. Some witnesses, however, claimed the police had beaten up Kian, given him a gun, and forced him to run before killing him.
Twelve cops are facing charges in connection with the death of Delos Santos.
The President had said the killing of Delos Santos was “really bad,” adding it was not done in the policemen’s performance of duty. He assured that the policemen involved in the killing would rot in jail if proven guilty.
Duterte later voiced suspicion about the presence of Delos Santos in the area, claiming that minors are often used as drug couriers by syndicates.
