The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration is monitoring a new low-pressure area east of the Visayas which could intensify into a tropical cyclone within the next two days.
The LPA, which is already inside the country’s area of responsibility, was estimated at 450 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar before noon yesterday.
PAGASA said that once the LPA becomes a tropical depression within the next 24 to 48 hours, it will be given the local name “Salome.” It will be the first tropical cyclone this month and 19th this year.
PAGASA said the LPA will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Sur as early as last night.
The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides over these areas due to occasional heavy rains.
