National team members dominated their respective categories over the weekend in the National Duathlon Championship 2017 at the Subic Bay Freeport.
National champion Jarwin Banatao of Iloilo clocked 1 hour, 57 minutes and 42 seconds to retain the crown in the men’s standard distance of 10-kilometer run, 40km bike, 5k run.
Joey de los Reyes came in second in 1:59:02 while John Topia finished third in 2:00:19.
In the distaff side, Miscelle Gilbuena of Cebu clinched her fist title after timing 2:20:15, almost ten minutes ahead of closest pursuer and eventual silver medalist Jermyn Prado of the national velodrome cycling team (2:30.00). Rowena Valdez settled for third in 2:33:33.
Defending champion Mirasol Abad failed to retain her title after dropping out of the first loop of the bike event due to injury.
It was also a 1-2-3 finish for PH team members in the 5km run-2km bike-2.25km run sprint distance in champion Jelsie Sabado (1:06:13), Karen Manayon (1:13:29) and Una Sibayan (1:17:33).
Winners in the boys sprint 1 category were Paolo Tayag (59:13), Austine Morfe (1:00.54) and Renz Corbin (1:01.54) while national team members Joshua Ramos (1:03:29), Andrew Remolino (1:03:29) and Jacob Taylor (1:04:40) in the boys sprint 2 class.
