Tony Lascuña closed out with a two-under par 70 yesterday to edge American Nicolas Paez by two strokes in the ICTSI Wack Wack championship at the East course.
It was a come-from-behind win for Lascuña who was five shots off the pace after two rounds before rallying to close the gap to just one going into the final round.
“It’s nice to win again. But I had to work hard to put myself back into contention,” said Lascuña who wound up with a two-under 286 to take the $17,500 top prize.
The win preserved the streak of Filipino golfers in the inaugural Philippine Golf Tour Asia following the triumphs of Miguel Tabuena (Southwoods), Rene Menor (Splendido) and Clyde Mondilla (Riviera).
Lascuña surged ahead with back-to-back birdies from No. 2 in second-to-last flight before making up for a missed green bogey on No. 12 with another birdie on the 14th.
Paez matched Lascuña’s 70 to take solo second spot at 288.
Overnight co-leaders Zanieboy Gialon, Thai Pasavee Lertvilai and Justin Quiban crumbled under pressure.
