An opposition lawmaker yesterday sought the removal of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade for his inability to end the troubles in the Metro Rail Transit.
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano aired the call as MRT defects continue to plague and threaten the safety of commuters.
Alejano noted that the Thursday MRT mishap that resulted in the detachment of two coaches from the train body shows the ineptness of Tugade and the Department of Transportation.
The DoTr has been blamed for several stoppage and accidents in the MRT in about one week since its takeover of maintenance operations.
“The responsibility of finding solutions to the problem falls squarely on the DoTr and its leadership. It has been over a year since the Duterte administration took over,” said Alejano.
He said the DoTr has been very much aware of the problems plaguing the MRT system yet it continued to hurl blame on the Aquino administration.
“Now, no more excuses or blame game. Take responsibility for the mistakes and act forthwith,” he said.
The Magdalo solon demanded that Tugade should be removed immediately, “given lack of actions on the MRT issue.”
