Anjel Anies and Sai Larosa took turns in delivering the goods down the stretch as University of Santo Tomas eliminated host Far Eastern University, 86-72, yesterday in the UAAP women’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Anies banged in 18 of her game-high 24 points in the second half, nine of them coming in the final period where she teamed up with Larosa in the Tigresses’ roaring finish that enabled them to pull away from the Lady Tamaraws.
With the win, the third-ranked UST unit moved on the next phase of the stepladder semifinals where it will take on University of the East, the second-seeded team armed with a twice-to-beat advantage.
“As I’ve told the girls, we need to take it one game at a time. Lahat ng games namin knockout games na,” said UST coach Haydee Ong. (Jerome Lagunzad)
