Two men who had a drinking spree with the prime suspect on the night 22-year-old bank teller Mabel Cama was believed raped and killed are being sought by police.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde said the suspect, Randy Oavenada, 37, admitted that he had two drinking buddies on Nov. 11, the night before Cama’s body was found at an impounding area of Mega Bus Line on Ortigas Avenue in Barangay Rosario, Pasig.
“Actually, may dalawa siyang sinabi kanina – ‘yung mga kaninuman niya that night. Nabanggit niya ‘yung dalawa kanina. Sila ay hindi napasama sa persons of interest,” Albayalde said during a press conference at the Pasig City police station yesterday afternoon.
“’Yung dalawa ay iimbitahan dito sa station.”
Albayalde did not identify the two persons of interest.
Oavenada, who tested positive for drugs, kept denying that he had something to do with Cama’s murder, according to Albayalde.
But the police official said Oavenada’s inconsistent statements placed doubts on his credibility as a potential witness.
Police said Oavenada’s fingerprints were found in the victim’s mobile phone.
Supt. Isidro Carino, Eastern Police District (EPD) Crime Laboratory head, said that there are clear signs that Cama was sexually abused “because of the contusions discovered in her genital.”
However, since her private part was totally burnt, the post-mortem yielded negative of spermatozoa.
Carino said that it is possible that Cama was unconscious when she was allegedly abused and killed in the absence of evidence that she fought back.
“It is possible that she was unconscious since there was no sign that she fought back. There are no marks of struggle on her body,” he said.
He said Cama’s cause of death was traumatic injuries to the head caused by “a blunt instrument.”
The four men tagged earlier as persons of interest have been cleared after testing negative for illegal drug use and that their fingerprints were not present in the crime scene.
The crime lab chief clarified that Oavenada’s fingerprint was not found on the body of Cama.
But Carino said that two of the five aluminum foils recovered from the crime scene contained traces of shabu. A fingerprint was also lifted on the linoleum.
Reynaldo Cama, the victim’s father, said that he wants all people involved in the killing of her daughter to be put behind bars.
“Gusto ko lahat sila mahuli. Hindi ko mapapatawad ang ginawa nila sa anak ko. Mga hayop sila,” said the elder Cama.
The reward money for any information that could lead to the solution of the case is now P300,000.
Pasig City Mayor Robert Eusebio has added P200,000 to the P50,000 each offered by Paracale, Camarines Norte Mayor Lourdes Villamonte and an anonymous businessman.
