The Makati City Police said yesterday that the three suspects in the killing of a 17-year-old boy in the city last week were arrested after they got involved in another shooting incident.
Senior Superintendent Gerardo Umayao, chief of Makati police, said they arrested JR Cocjin, 21; John Patrick Orias, 20; and Jonathan Cervano, 24, after a series of follow-up operations by its intelligence unit.
The three are all suspects in the murder of Mayward Manalo, a senior high school student at the University of Makati, and a resident of Barangay Pembo last November 14.
Cocjin and Orias were first to fall around 5 a.m. Sunday on Amarillo Street corner Daffodil Street in Barangay Rizal, Makati. Cervano, on the other hand, was arrested by the operatives in a separate operation around 1 a.m. yesterday on Pascua Street in Barangay Rizal.
The suspects were arrested after being tagged in another shooting incident last November 18 wherein a certain Blas Olores and Micaela Orque, 17, were both wounded.
A witness said that the suspects fired at the two victims who were both standing on Amapola Street in Barangay Pembo.
“Dahil sa insidente na ito, nag-conduct ng follow up operation and intel namin at natukoy nga na sila rin and suspek doon sa kaso ni [Manalo],” Umayao said.
Umayao said the three suspects would be undergoing inquest proceedings at the Makati Prosecutor’s Office around 3 p.m. Monday for murder, frustrated murder, carnapping and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition charges. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
