DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said the Davao City Peace Council (DC PEACE) is planning to speak with leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in hopes of establishing a “season of peace,” something the group also recommends to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The plan was initiated by the group days prior to President Duterte threatening to proclaim the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the CPP, a terrorist group following the death of a four-month old infant in an ambush attributed to them earlier this month.
Mayor Duterte said she considers her father’s statement as something “out of the cuff” and not yet official.
“For now, we will continue reaching out to our brothers and sisters,” she added.
Part of the plan is to meet with representatives of the group between Dec. 7 to 9.
Mayor Duterte said she would leave all the negotiating to the members of the DC PEACE to not muddle the discussions. (Tara Yap)
