Generika-Ayala overcame the last-gasp effort of Victoria Sports-University of Santo Tomas and scored a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 win yesterday in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lifesavers saw the resurgent Tigresses rally from a 15-13 deficit and knot the count at 23-all before Generika imports Katarina Pilepic and Darlene Ramdin joined forces to douse cold water of UST’s comeback bid.
Pilepic exploded with 22 points built on 18 kills, two blocks and two aces for Generika-Ayala, which came into the game still smarting from a straight-set loss to F2 Logistics last week.
The Lifesavers improved to 3-4 for solo fifth.
Chloe Cortez had nine points while Ramdin came off the bench to deliver six points – all coming from hits.
UST absorbed its fifth straight defeat in as many appearances, with Dim Pacres managing only 10 points on eight attacks and two aces.
Japanese import Yukie Inamasu only contributed five points for the España-based collegiate squad.
Generika-Ayala dominated UST on all fronts particularly on attacks, 40-30, courtesy of setter Penina Snuka’s creative plays. Snuka had 17 of the team’s 26 excellent sets.
