Gospel Reading: Lk 19:45-48
Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” And every day he was teaching in the temple area. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.
REFLECTION
Jesus entered the temple area
Having entered Jerusalem, Jesus finds his life becoming more “exciting.” In the Gospel, he comes to the Temple and drives out those who have thoughtlessly turned this holy dwelling place of God into a marketplace. And he begins to preach there daily so that his enemies are now trying to destroy him.
At times, even when we sense that our lives are endangered, we just have to do what we believe we ought to. It is that feeling of no turning back; the time has come to face whatever comes for the sake of achieving our mission.
Are we determined to be true followers of Jesus no matter what happens? Or are we like the many who cannot make the definitive step and bet their lives on him?
