GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested on Friday a barangay chairman after a raid in his home at Barangay Tambler here yielded some 10 grams of shabu worth P50,000.
Not that he stayed behind bars for long.
Suspect Abdulwahid Bualan was released yesterday after he posted bail amounting to P200,000.
His family has since accused the PDEA raiding team of carting away several expensive jewelries from their home.
PDEA regional director Cesario Gil Castro vehemently denied the charges, going on to tag Bualan as a member of the Sogis group, among drug syndicates operating in the Socsargen (South Cotabato-Sarangani-General Santos) area.
Two other members of the group, namely Jocelyn Nadar, municipal treasurer of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat and her husband, Jojo, were nabbed by PDEA operatives during an earlier raid. The couple yielded 50 grams of shabu worth P250,000 and a rifle grenade.
Barangay South chairman Alvin Veneracion, Association of Barangay Chairmen head here, expressed surprise with the arrest of Bualan, whom he described as a very active participant in the government’s war on drugs.
