The City government of Manila has enrolled 3,500 indigent residents of the capital city to Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) coverage to enable them to access quality and subsidized healthcare.
Of the 3,500 beneficiaries, 1,000 were from District 4; 1,500 from District 5; and 1,000 from District 6, according to Nanet Tanyag, head of the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW).
Tanyag said the city government is close to achieving its target of 27,500 beneficiaries for 2017. “We have so far enrolled 17,594 beneficiaries to PhilHealth, and many more in the weeks to come,” said Tanyag.
As LGU-sponsored PhilHealth members, the beneficiaries are entitled to benefits given by regular members. Last June, the local government approved the release of another R200 million to cover the health insurance of the targeted beneficiaries. (Analou De Vera)
