The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has given the thumbs-up sign to 2018 Asian Games chief of mission Julian Camacho to screen athletes eyeing to make the delegation to the Aug. 18-Sept. 2 sportsfest in Indonesia.
“The POC approved it,” Camacho said yesterday, referring to his proposal that only silver and gold medalists from the recent Southeast Asian Games earn automatic berths to Indonesia instead of the old practice of including even the bronze medal winners.
“This is a way of making sure that those who will end up going will be there to contend for medals,” said Camacho.
Of course, there are other ways for athletes to make the team for Indonesia and Camacho insists that “they have to fare well in Asian-level events (in the coming months) for them to be considered,” said Camacho.
