Senate and Judiciary sustained their hot streak and advanced to the second round of the 6th UNTV Cup held over the weekend at the Pasig Sports Center.
Led by Sen. Joel Villanueva, the Senate Defenders crushed the Department of Health (DOH) Achievers, 93-58, in their Group A showdown while the Judiciary Magis got 26 points from Chester Tolomia and crushed the Department of Agriculture Food Masters, 112-103, in Group B.
Villanueva scored 23 points while five other teammates tallied six points or more to manhandle their rivals and grab the solo lead in their group with a 4-1 mark.
Judiciary’s win over DA was a fitting sequel to a stunning 93-82 win over Malacanang-Philippine Sports Commission a week ago in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for the country’s public servants.
The Malacañang-PSC Kamao, on the other hand, got back on the winning track with a 128-79 win over the Ombudsman Graft Busters.
The win enabled the Kamao to finish the first round elims with a 5-1 mark.
The top four finishers in each group play another round with the top two advancing outright to the semis of the tournament offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
Through the hot shooting of Von Javier and Ian Garrido, the Kamao hardly encountered trouble after a big second quarter that saw them take a 72-46 halftime lead.
