The Japan Self-Defense Force vessel JS Oonami, an anti-submarine destroyer, arrived yesterday for a two-day goodwill visit and replenishment of supply from a mission in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations International Fleet Review.
Capt. Lued L. Lincuna, director of the Naval Public Affairs Office, said the Philippine Navy vessel BRP Rajah Humabon rendered customary meeting procedures on Corregidor Island and escorted the vessels to its designated anchorage area.
PN representatives accorded the visiting navy a welcome ceremony upon arrival followed by a port briefing related to health and security aboard JS Oonami.
Lincuna said the commanding officer of JS Oonami, Commander Hirotaka Okumura, and party were scheduled to pay a courtesy call on PN Flag-Officer-in-Command Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado or his representative at the PN headquarters in Manila yesterday. (Francis T. Wakefield)
