The House Committee on Justice will not be able to meet its self-imposed deadline in making a recommendation on the determination of probable cause on the impeachment complaint filed against Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes P.A. Sereno.
This was gathered as impeachment complainant lawyer Lorenzo Gadon has called anew for Sereno’s resignation as he warned that more damning evidence and testimonies await presentation at the on-going hearings being conducted by the House Committee on Justice.
In an interview, Mindoro Oriental Rep. Reynaldo Umali, committee chairman, admitted that the impeachment hearings cannot be terminated in time for the Christmas break.
Umali said the committee’s impeachment vote may likely be conducted in January.
So far, only seven of the 27 allegations against Sereno were discussed by the panel which will adjourn before the Dec. 13 Congress Christmas break.
