Gospel Reading: Lk 21:29-33
Jesus told his disciples a parable. “Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near; in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
REFLECTION
KNOW THAT THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NEAR
With all the violence and conflict going on around the world right now, we may find Jesus’ words in the Gospel hard to accept. He says his words will never fail. But where is the Kingdom of God now?
While it is true that our attention is arrested by the troubles of the present world, there are also so many signs of the presence of God’s Kingdom in our midst: A growing concern for the environment, the advancement of the rights of women and children, efforts to help curb poverty and hunger around the world, peace initiatives, etc.
Still, the Lord may be counting on us to do our part. After all, God has given us so many talents and resources that we are supposed to use for our well-being and the good of the world we live in.
Do you make the maximum use of your gifts and blessings especially for the benefit of the less fortunate?
