Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has batted for the creation of the Philippine Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Center, citing that the incidence of ENT diseases in the country has become “more prevalent.”
He said the ENT Center will provide comprehensive, high quality, affordable and specialized medical services for the prevention, control and treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck (ENTHN) disorders.
“ENTHN diseases not only affect the productivity and performance of a person but also cause permanent physical disabilities and deformities. Despite the high prevalence rate of ENTHN diseases and their tremendous effect on health, these conditions have not been given enough attention and priority,” Alvarez said.
He filed House Bill 6720 to establish the Philippine ENT Center under the supervision of the Department of Health (DoH).
The Center shall be administered by a seven-man Board of Trustees to be appointed by the President of the Philippines upon the recommendation of the Health Secretary.
The Board is tasked to develop and formulate programs for the prevention, control and treatment of ENTHN diseases, including a program for indigents and adopt necessary measures to carry out the provisions of the proposed Act. (Charissa M. Luci-Atienza)
