A 17-year-old boy tagged as the primary suspect in the killing of a 72 year-old businessman inside his condominium unit in Pasay City surrendered to authorities a week after committing the crime, police announced yesterday.
The suspect identified as “Rolly”, a native of Masbate, was turned over to Pasay City Police Saturday night after he surrendered to Caloocan City Police Community Precinct (PCP)-6.
Rolly went straight to Chief Inspector Nasciso Cajipe, Caloocan PCP-6 commander, and admitted that he was the one who killed Rolando Abesamis, 72, occupant of Room 1614 Park Avenue Mansion in Barangay 81, Pasay City, on November 19.
Abesamis’ decomposing body with multiple stab wounds in the left side of the chest was found by his younger brother, Antonio, six days after he was killed, reports said.
In an interview, Rolly said he surrendered to clear his sister’s name, Loida, 25, Abesamis’ former girlfriend.
“I do not want my family to be implicated in what I have done,” Rolly said.
Rolly told police that his mind went blank when Abesamis allegedly accused him of stealing cash and other valuable items.
“Ang kwento ng suspek, nagdilim daw ang paningin niya kasi binugbog siya at binatukan ni (Abesamis). Ang sabi niya ay may nawawala daw na mga gamit ‘yung biktima pati cash na R100,000 at siya ang pinagbintangan,” according to Superintendent Gene Licud, Pasay police’s assistant chief of police for operations (ACOPO).
Carried by his emotions, Rolly went to the kitchen, found a knife and repeatedly stabbed Abesamis in his room.
“After niya mapatay ‘yung biktima, naglinis pa ‘yung ‘suspek doon sa kwarto, pinunasan niya ‘yung mga dugo, naglinis ng katawan at natulog. Kinabukasan, doon siya tumakas dala ‘yung sasakyan,” Licud added.
In its initial report, police said a security guard of the condo building saw “Sir Rolly,” going out of the parking area on board the gold Honda Accord car (UJX-504) of Abesamis.
Abesamis car’ was found abandoned in Manila after Rolly went to Masbate to hide. It was recovered by authorities at the impounding area of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Marikina City.
Endrina told police that he did not steal cash or any valuable from Abesamis, whom he even described as a “close friend.”
Licud said they were still investigating whether there were missing cash or valuables of Abesamis.
He earlier said the they have already removed the angle of robbery since they could not establish if there were any missing things owned by the victim.
Rolly claimed that Loida and Abesamis had already split up.
“Naghiwalay na daw sila dahil umuwi ‘yung Koreano na boyfriend din daw ni Loida kamakailan lang,” Licud said.
“Hindi daw alam ng suspek na hiwalay na ‘yung ate niya at ‘yung biktima kaya nagpupunta pa rin siya doon. Siguro ‘di pa nagtatagal ‘yung (break-up). Noong magkasintahan pa kasi ‘yung ate niya at ‘yung biktima, ginagawa na nila ‘yun, na doon sila natutulog sa condo,” he explained.
“Siguro nabunton din sa kapatid ‘yung galit kaya nangyari ‘yun. Kukuhanan pa natin ng statement ‘yung babae kapag lumutang ulit siya dito,” he added.
Rolly was brought to the Pasay City’s Social Welfare Department for custody since he is still a minor. He will turn 18 years old in March 2018.
Police said the suspect will be charged with murder at the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office on Monday.
