Gospel Reading: Lk 10:21-24
Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”
Reflection
YOU HAVE REVEALED THEM TO THE CHILDLIKE
The theme of humility continues in the Gospel. Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit, realizing how the Father reveals himself and his will not to those who are wise and learned but to the little ones who listen to his Son.
The world values and recognizes only those who have wealth and power, who are highly educated and very popular – people who usually find it hard to accept the Lord’s teachings.
On the other hand, the poor and the uneducated follow Jesus and accept his teaching. Thus, the Lord happily declares to them and makes them realize how blessed they are to have seen and heard all that Jesus has revealed.
Do you consider yourself blessed to have heard the Lord’s message, the Gospel of salvation, and to know the Savior himself?
Imagine where you would be, and how your life might be, if you did not know Jesus.
