Defending champion Foton and Cignal try to complete the semifinal cast when they tackle separate rivals today in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan City.
The third-seeded Tornadoes collide with the sixth-seeded Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors at 4:15 p.m. while the No. 4 HD Spikers clash with the dangerous fifth-seeded Cocolife Asset Managers at 7 p.m. in this knockout quarterfinal round.
F2 Logistics and Petron have earlier clinched semis berths after besting their respective opponents in contrasting fashions last Tuesday.
The top-seeded Cargo Movers blasted the Iriga City Lady Oragons, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17, while the Blaze Spikers survived the challenge of the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11.
Foton and Cignal are not only loaded with top caliber imports they also boast of a bevy of homegrown talents.
Foton’s Serbian coach Moro Branislav is once again pinning his hopes on the deadly trio of Sara Klisura, Dragana Perunicic and Jaja Santiago who have shown how deadly they are during the elims.
Branislav is also confident that they can duplicate their 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 elims victory over Sta. Lucia last Nov. 18.
The Lady Realtors, however, are unfazed as imports Marisa Field, Bohdana Anisova and Mar-Jana Phillips are out to pull out a surprise win.
Cignal will continue to miss PH standouts Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Daquis due to injuries, but coach George Pascua is upbeat about their chances.
“Cocolife is a veteran team. We have to be at our best if we want to advance to the next round,” said Pascua.
Cignal is determined to avenge its19-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-16, 15-9 loss to Cocolife last Nov. 4.
