The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is deporting a South Korean wanted by authorities in his country for alleged violent acts he committed there several years ago.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the fugitive as 47-year-old Kang Bum Su, who was arrested last Dec. 5 by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) at his home in Barangay Anonas, Clark Avenue, Villasol Subd., Angeles City, Pampanga.
He said Kang was ordered expelled after his embassy in Manila informed the BI about his criminal record and that he had become undocumented as a result of the cancellation of his passport by the Korean government.
A warrant for Kang’s arrest was reportedly issued on Aug. 25, 2015 by a Korean court where he was indicted for violating the country’s punishment of violence act which was not specified in the report.
The said act punishes any person or group of persons who commit violence and use deadly weapon that result in bodily harm to their victims.
“He was already included in our blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country,” Morente said.
BI intelligence officer and FSU chief Bobby Raquepo disclosed that the captured fugitive hid in the Philippines for more than six years apparently to evade arrest and prosecution.
Raquepo said a check of the BI’s travel database showed Kang arrived in Manila on July 24, 2011 and did not leave the country since then.
He added that a team of Korean policemen is expected to arrive in Manila shortly to fetch and escort the fugitive on his return flight to Korea.
