ACTOR Edgar Allan Guzman has revealed that he won’t be accepting gay roles for now after his latest movie “Deadma Walking,” an entry to the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Guzman said that he feels that he is now being typecast into gay roles although he really has no qualms with that.
“Actually nangyayari na nga eh (na type-cast ako). Tinatanggap ko lang naman. So break muna sa gay roles para ‘yung mga tao hindi ma-confuse kung lalaki ba ako o bading,” said Guzman during a press conference for his latest movie held at the Limbaga 77 Cafe Restaurant in Quezon City last Thursday. The movie also stars Joross Gamboa.
Guzman has portrayed the role of a gay in the movies “Working Beks,” and “Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako,” and in an episode on the drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on ABS CBN.
“Actually nakikita ko rin sa ibang comments talaga na mas okay ang straight guy na gaganap na gay kasi makikita dun kung gaano sya ka-versatile,” he said.
In “Deadma Walking,” Guzman and Gamboa play two gay best friends who mount a fake wake and funeral.
It is the first movie among the eight MMFF entries this year to receive an “A” from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB). The CEB commended the film for its fine direction, editing, script writing, and heartwarming message.
“Deadma Walking” is based on the screenplay of Eric Cabahug that won 2nd prize at the Palanca Awards for Literature in 2016.
With Christmas just around the corner, Guzman said that it will be quite a busy holiday season for him.
“Magpo-promote kami ng ‘Deadma Walking.’ But as always, ang family ko nagche-check-in kami sa hotel ‘pag Christmas. Nakagawian na namin ito,” said Guzman.
“Then siguro, on Christmas Day, manunuod kami ng family ko ng ‘Deadma Walking.’ So ganun lang ang plan namin sa Pasko,” he said.
Last year, as a Christmas gift for himself, Guzman bought himself a brand new car and a lot in Pasig City where he will build his dream house. “Taga-Pasig po kasi ako kaya doon ako bumili ng lupa.”
This year, Guzman has given himself an early Christmas gift – a condominium unit in Quezon City.
“Bumili naman ako ng condo ngayon. Hindi pa sya gawa. Hopefully next year magamit ko na sya,” said the former winner of Mr. Pogi 2006 of “Eat Bulaga.”
“Magiging pad ko lang sya at hindi talaga ako duon titira. Halimbawang mahirap na umuwi papuntang Pasig dahil pagod na sa taping, dun muna ako uuwi,” Guzman added.
Guzman, 29, transferred to the Kapuso network in June and currently enjoys his stint on the popular network.
The Kapuso hunk is one of the stars of the prime teleserye “My Korean Jagiya” with Heart Evangelista in the lead role.
Guzman also expressed his thoughts about indecent proposals.
“Ako kasi medyo alam ko na kung gusto nilang papunta na ruon. Pagganun hindi ko na ine-entertain. Hindi ko na lang sinasagot ‘yung mga text nila,” he added.
But Guzman said that he doesn’t see himself giving in to such kind of proposal. “Hindi ko kaya.”
