7 p.m. – F2 Logistics vs Petron
Deposed champion Foton consoled itself yesterday by finishing third with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 win over Cocolife in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan City.
Coming off a heartbreaking semifinal loss to Petron that wrecked their bid for a third straight crown, the Tornadoes came out swinging, leaving the Asset Managers in utter disappointment.
In the nightcap, Petron Blaze drew first blood by beating F2 Logistics, 25-14, 25-21, 25-16, at the start of their best-of-three title series.
Jaja Santiago fueled Foton’s rampage early and finished with 17 points built on 10 hits, four blocks and three aces.
Serbian import Sara Klisura also made her presence felt by contributing 13 points.
Foton’s Serbian coach Moro Branislav lauded his players despite failing to achieve their end goal, saying they still gave their despite playing only for third.
“It’s okay. It’s a normal win for us. It’s very difficult after that loss over Petron, but they were better off blocks and service this time,” said Branislav.
Indeed, Foton produced more blocks (8-0) and service aces (8-2) while prevailing in attacks (40-34).
