Warren Kiamco, Roland Garcia and Israel Rota beat their respective rivals in the loser’s bracket to reach the round of 64 of the World 9-Ball Championship at the Al-Arabi Sports Club in Doha, Qatar.
Kiamco beat Singapore’s Teck Goh Chin, 9-3, Garcia beat Mohammad Berwaji, 9-6, and Rota downed Germany’s Andre Lackner, 9-4, to join three other Pinoys in the knockout stage of the annual tournament.
Carlo Biado, Jeff de Luna and Jeffrey Ignacio were among the early qualifiers in the last 64 after winning their first two matches.
Failing to advance was Johann Chua, who absorbed a 9-3 loss to Myanmar’s Maung Maung.
The first stages of the knockout stage were being played at press time.
The remaining six are aiming to become the first Filipino to win the tournament since Francisco “Django” Bustamante in 2010.
