Israel Gonzalez of Mexico has been pin-pointed as Jerwin Ancajas challenger when the Filipino champion stakes his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown for the fourth time on Feb. 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Gonzalez, a right-hander, is ranked tenth by the IBF and holds a 21-1 record with eight KOs.
Ancajas, who has a 28-1-1 mark with 19 KOs, battered Jamie Conlan in the sixth round in his last defense last month in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
This will be Ancajas’ US debut and it was made possible by Top Rank head Bob Arum, who was mesmerized by the hard-hitting lefty.
Sean Gibbons, a well-connected American agent, is also lending a helping hand to Team Ancajas.
