GENERAL SANTOS CITY– Bantamweight Reymar Brillo of Sultan Kudarat made a lot of heads turn after knocking out Zaldy Recopuerto in just 15 seconds Saturday that he received an offer to turn professional as soon as he stepped out of the ring.
Brillo’s cameo appearance in the inaugural Philippine Sports Commission-Pacquiao Cup only boosted the PSC’s bid to discover fresh talent in the grassroots level.
As soon as the bell rang, Recopuerto found himself on the ropes and forced to trade power blows as Brillo swarmed all over him and landed heavy punches.
In a snap, Recopuerto went down in a heap and the referee didn’t even bother to count, knowing it was futile to administer such a ritual as the fallen Sarangani bet was motionless.
“Meron na kami offer para mag-professional,” said Brillo’s coach.
The fighter himself was delighted over the juicy offer but assured that he will pursue his amateur career.
The partnership between the PSC and Pacquiao was forged to help the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines look for new blood.
Pacquiao, appearing at the PSC main office in Manila last week, said there are lots of talents waiting to be discovered in Mindanao.
Boxing squads not only from here took part in the two-day competition with entries from other provinces sending teams.
