The biggest international cockfighting derby, the 2018 World Slasher Cup 9-cock Invitational, happens soon.
Set at the Smart Araneta Coliseum from Jan. 29 to Feb. 7, 2018, the preeminent derby is touted to attract the world’s best breeders who are up for real fights, fair games and the most prestigious title in the world of cockfighting.
Known as the “Olympics of Cockfighting,” the 2018 World Slasher Cup (WSC) will be a real smackdown among the finest winged-warriors. After a recent trip to Guam, PitGames Media director Manny Berbano notes a good number of gamefowl enthusiasts and the best breeders in the US are already gearing up for their 2018 WSC bids.
Various repeat participants have been hailed champs of this celebrated derby over the years. For instance, WSC participants like multiple winners Patrick Antonio; and Rudy Salud and Lito Orillaza; as well as Cong. Wacnang and Cong. Cosalan; Gen Gen Arayata and Cyrus Hao; Rey Briones; Peping Taba, Mark Salazar and Ed Moreno have all, at some point, been hailed champions with each of their entries garnering 8 points.
When WSC levelled up to a 9-cock invitational derby, Frank Berin’s Sebastian NEJ entry bested all others with 8.5 points in the first edition of WSC 2017. In 2017’s second edition, Berin’s Mulawin entry scored a back-to-back WSC win with 8 points, along with co-champions Lucban (Anthony Lim) and Escolin Eslabon (the Escolin brothers), also with 8 points apiece.
The amazing fights of 2017 WSC 1 have been immortalized in a 15-discs DVD set that also comes with a bonus disc.
Eliminations are scheduled from Jan. 29-31, with semis on Feb. 1-3; pre-finals on Feb, 4-6; and grand finals on Feb. 7, 2018.
