A father believed to be high on drugs took his three-year-old son hostage inside a bus in Caloocan City yesterday morning.
Ian Christopher Lacuesta, 29, of Barangay Mandresa, Quezon City, was arrested by responding police after holding hostage his own son at knife point, police said.
Inspector Alexander Vergara, Northern Police District-Special Reaction Unit (NPD-SRU) head, said they received a call about a man, later identified as Lacuesta, creating trouble inside a bus around 10 a.m.
Lacuesta and his son reportedly boarded the Phil. Tourister bus heading to Pacita, Laguna, on Langaray Street in Barangay 14. He was uttering unnecessary words that scare passengers.
Upon reaching Tanigue Street near the NPD headquarters, all passengers immediately alighted, said Manuel Lelis, bus conductor.
“The suspect was telling us that someone will die if we will push him to get off the bus,” Lelis said.
Police said that upon arrival of responding cops from NPD-SRU, Lacuesta reportedly pulled out a knife and pointed it to his son.
After few minutes of negotiations, police had the opportunity to get the boy and accost Lacuesta.
Investigators said Lacuesta admitted that he was a drug user.
Charges will be filed against Lacuesta who was brought to the Caloocan police detention cell. Police tried to contact the mother of the boy.
