Thousands of policemen have been deployed to ensure the safety of people in Manila in the coming holidays.
Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Erwin Margarejo said 2,338 cops and 3,400 force multipliers have been assigned to guard all the 11 stations of MPD, with particular focus on Divisoria area, for the “Ligtas Paskuhan 2017”.
He also called on the public to cooperate with authorities especially with the implementation of strict security measures in bus terminals as people are expected to go home to their provinces for Christmas.
“’Yung isinasagawang inspection, hindi lang from transportation [authorities], but also from the police para sa ating lahat,” Margarejo said.
Margarejo also advised the public to be vigilant even if they have not received clear and present threats.
“Panawagan po natin na maging mapagmatyag at alerto sila sa anumang oras. Ireport po natin ang mga suspicious package, items, at persons bilang tulong sa ating mga kapulisan,” he said.
“Tandaan po natin na ang safety at security natin ay magsisimula sa ating mga sarili,” he added.
So far, Margarejo said the MPD monitored only minor incidents of crimes against property from Dec. 1 to 19. (Jaimie Rose R. Aberia)
