Bacon District, Sorsogon City – Barangay officials here are in mourning following a drowning incident involving a five-year-old girl on Tuesday.
Officials of Barangay Salvacion in this town said the victim identified as Maria Lourdes Ebio, drowned in the waters off a beach in Caricara, while her parents were busy having fun with co-Barangay officers.
The victim’s body was found in the barangay next to Caricara at 10 in the evening.
Authorities said the child could have been dragged by big waves caused by the inclement weather.
On the same day in the same town, a 21-year-old drowned in Paguriran Beach in Barangay Sawangga.
The victim, identified as Jayson Herrera, was said to have been drinking with friends when he decided to jump into the water to take a swim.
Friends said Herrera was engulfed by big waves.
Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management office tried to revive Herrera but he eventually succumbed.
