Every athlete who will be named to the 2018 Asian Games will only have goal one in mind, according to chief of mission Julian Camacho.
“Those who will earn slots to the Asian Games will be there for the purpose of contenting for a medal finish,” said Camacho as he sets the stage for the country’s participation in the Aug. 18-Sept. 2 sportsfest in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
Camacho insists that the Asian Games is not for those “who are out to gain experience.”
“If an athlete or NSA is planning to send somebody so their athletes gain exposure, this is not the event for them.”
“If you want to gain experience, go to the Southeast Asian Games,” he said.
Camacho is fresh from attending a major meeting involving CDMs from other countries in Jakarta.
The deadline for the submission of entry-by-numbers will be in January while the entry-by-names will be sometime in June or July and Camacho will be attending three more meetings before the actual event kicks off in August.
Last time in Incheon, the Philippines could only produce one gold medal courtesy of Fil-Am Daniel Caluag.
Camacho admits he is already feeling some pressure but is welcoming the challenge, nonetheless.
“I know it’s going to be tough winning in the Asian Games as the world powers like China, Japan, Korea and some of the former Soviet republics are taking part,” he said.
“But I am positive we will do much better this time,” Camacho concluded.
