More than 40, 000 passengers started departing from various ports in the country on New Year’s Day, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
Departing passengers from all ports in the country reached 42, 321 as of 12 noon yesterday, PCG said in its recent report.
Majority of the outbound passengers were in Central Visayas ports with 16,017 passengers. The second biggest portion of departing passengers were monitored in Western Visayas with 5, 949; followed by South Eastern Mindanao with 4, 004 passengers.
Moreover, 3,396 passengers were reported leaving the ports in Southern Visayas; 3, 658 passengers in Southern Tagalog ports; 3,113 passengers in National Capital Region and Central Luzon.
In addition, 2,554 passengers were monitored departing ports in Palawan; 1,120 in Northern Midanao; 1,001 in Eastern Visayas; 440 in Northwestern Luzon; 438 in Bicol; and 31 in Northeastern Luzon.
All units of the PCG will remain under heightened alert until Jan. 8 as it continuous to implement the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Krismas 2017” which started last December 18 to monitor sea travels. (Betheena Kae Unite)
