Iloilo City – Classes has been suspended in the province of Capiz as of today.
Capiz Governor Tony Del Rosario made the announcement yesterday with majority of the province having been inundated by floodwaters due to Tropical storm Agaton.
Esperedion “Speed” Pelaez, director of the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the suspension of classes covers both private and public schools in all levels.
While Capiz is not any under storm signal, the incessant rain since New Year’s weekend has made rivers and tributaries in the province overflow.
Pelaez said that several mayors have already ordered the forced evacuation of local residents, especially in low-lying areas.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-6) also reported that river streams are also being monitored in Aklan and Antique provinces as floodwaters may reach highly densely populated areas.
As of Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) suspended sea travel between Iloilo City and Bacolod City. (Tara Yap)
