The Commission on Elections (Comelec) remains housed at the Palacio del Gobernador (PDG) in Intramuros, Manila as the process of their transfer to another building is still ongoing.
But Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said they expect their personnel department to already move out of the building by the end of this month.
“The Personnel Department is expected to move out of PDG and into Crystal Shipping by the end of January,” he said.
The Crystal Shipping Center building in Intramuros, is where the Comelec-Education and Information Department, is also holding office.
As to the rest of their departments, Jimenez said it will probably be discussed in the next en banc meeting.
Earlier, the Intramuros Administration issued a notice for the poll body to vacate the Palacio del Gobernador due to questions over the building’s “structural integrity.”
The poll official also assured the public they are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the integrity and safety of their records.
“We are taking every precaution to ensure that the integrity and safety of our records are maintained,” said Jimenez.
In the past, the poll official already said the Comelec has always been very careful to observe all requirements relating to the preservation of documents in its care, to the giving of due notice to the parties, and to the protection of the people’s sovereign vote. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
