ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two of three Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) detainees who staged a jailbreak here over the weekend have been recaptured by authorities.
PDEA-9 Director Lyndon Aspacio said the escape attempt took place 6: 30 p.m. on Dec. 29, just when jail guards were delivering dinner for the inmates.
Supposedly, the escapees, identified as Tenten Duran, Saddam Unsang and Muaser Abdulla, forcibly pushed the jail guards and made a dash for the facility’s main gate.
Duran, who is under preliminary investigation for violation of Section 5, RA 9165, and Abdulla, who is also under investigation for the same infraction, were immediately nabbed by chasing policemen.
Unsang, who is under preliminary investigation for violation of Sections 11 and 12 of RA 9165, remain at large as of this time and is now the subject of a manhunt.
“It was very fortunate for us that those whom we arrested and took from their possession big volumes of shabu, 500 grams of shabu and above, did not try to escape (with them),” Aspacio said.
“They even tried to stop others who wanted to escape,” he added.
A total of 47 drug suspects (39 males and 8 females) are currently detained at the PDEA-9 detention cell.
Aspacio said Duran was transferred to the Zamboanga City Jail a day after the jailbreak. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
