The Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala tennis circuit kicks off another 50-leg nationwide tour on Jan. 13 with the first PPS-PEPP Fr. Fernando Suarez Cup featuring the juniors, the inter-school and Open divisions at Colegio San Agustin in Bulacan.
Registration is ongoing with deadline for listup for the juniors (Group I) on Wednesday and on Friday for the Open (singles and doubles) and inter-school categories (individual singles and doubles).
The event, organized and sanctioned by the Unified Tennis Philippines and presented by Asiatraders Corp. with Slazenger and Dunlop as official balls, also serves as the first PPS tie-up with the healing priest, a tennis buff.
“Tennis is not only a sport for me but a passion,” said Fr. Suarez. “My love for the sport is unparalleled and it is a duty for everyone who loves the sport to promote it.”
Fr. Suarez added that he hopes the circuit in general will serve as a platform for the young, talented players to hone their skills and strive for excellence.
For details, call PPS-PEPP Sports Program Development director and organizer Bobby Mangunay at 0915-4046464.
“It inspires us to see more and more supporters of the sport coming in to help, most especially Fr. Suarez, who we know as a tennis player and enthusiast,” said Palawan Pawnshop president/CEO Bobby Castro.
This year’s calendar will feature 10 festival Open tournaments and 40 age-groupers spread in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Spicing up the country’s premier talent-search, backed by UTP, including PPS-PEPP, Cebuana Lhuillier, Wilson, Toby’s, Dunlop, Slazenger and B-Meg, is a 12-leg regional MACS Crankit Community Coaching Conference and four international events under the ATPCA-TA (Australian Tennis Professional Coaches Association-Tennis Australia) to be conducted by coach Patricia Concon-Puzon.
