Magnolia’s Paul Lee is looking forward to his first matchup with NLEX rookie Kiefer Ravena when their two teams meet on Sunday in a key PBA Philippine Cup game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The contest will be more exciting after Road Warriors coach Yeng Guiao compared his prized rookie Ravena to Lee, who he handled for five seasons when they were still with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
“Of course, I’m very excited sa match up namin,” Lee said Wednesday after scoring all of his 13 points in the third quarter that sparked the Hotshots’ 124-77 rout of the Kia Picanto at the Big Dome.
“First time ko makakalaro si Kiefer, hindi kami nag-abot sa college e, or sa ibang liga,” said Lee, who opted to skip his final UAAP season for University of the East in 2011, the same year Ravena made his collegiate debut for Ateneo.
Lee said he likens his showdown with Ravena to his pro debut in Oct. 2011 against his idol Mark Caguioa of Barangay Ginebra.
In his first ever PBA game, Lee quickly showcased the things he can do as he outplayed Caguioa with 21 points, five rebounds and eight assists in a thrilling 94-93 victory for Rain or Shine.
