THE Manila Hotel, the historic landmark on One Rizal Park in Manila, will host the inaugural King and Queen of Humanity of the Rotary Club District 3800 on Feb. 17.
Governor and woman lawyer Nancy D. Quimpo said that the event dubbed “The Great Charity Ball” aims to raise funds for the projects of District 3800 which comprises the various clubs in Valenzuela, Malabon, Caloocan, Navotas, Marikina, Rizal, Mandaluyong, and San Juan.
These projects are The Great Love for Little Hearts, which will help finance the operation of poor children at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City; Ladies In Pink Society; and the Haven for Women of Caloocan, that will help assist battered, emotional, and psychological abused women thru free legal service, professional counselling; and livelihood programs.
“The concern for children who are heart patients was brought to us very recently. And I said, ‘Oh my goodness. These children are either just waiting to die or waited to be operated on. And then we thought we could do something,’” said Quimpo.
Former beauty queen Hemilyn Escudero Tamayo, incumbent head of the Mutya ng Pilipinas, said that the competing contestants for the pageant are current members and officers, and past members of Rotary Club District 3800, and spouses of Rotarians.
