The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority called on barangay officials in Quezon City to keep alternative routes for the construction of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 clear of obstructions.
Bong Nebrija, head of MMDA Taskforce for Special Operations, said they have started towing illegally parked vehicles along roads where motorists can traverse following the closure of several lanes along North Avenue.
“With our chief of staff Jojo Garcia, we are asking barangay officials to cooperate with us to make available road network passable,” said Nebrija.
According to Nebrija, there are barangay officials and homeowners of subdivisions who want “exclusivity’” of the public roads for security reasons.
“All roads and thoroughfares must be cleared of obstruction to provide alternative roads for affected motorists,” said Nebrija.
The construction of a segment of MRT Line 3 on North Avenue started Saturday and will be done in several phases.
Contractors will occupy innermost lanes of both lanes of North Avenue, with 41,320 vehicles traversing every day.
Construction is confined to the innermost lanes of North Avenue but major construction movements should be coordinated with the agency and would only be allowed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
For motorists along North Avenue, they may turn left at Mindanao Avenue, right at Road 8, right at Visayas Avenue, right at Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC), then right at Commonwealth Avenue. They can also go from Mindanao Avenue right at Congressional Avenue.
From Congressional Avenue, motorists can also turn right at Luzon Avenue to Commonwealth Avenue to their destinations and vice versa.
From Quezon Avenue, motorists should turn right at QMC, right at Commonwealth Avenue to their destinations and vice versa.
For those on East Avenue, EDSA or V. Luna, turn right to QMC then right at Commonwealth Avenue and vice versa. (Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren)
