It seems that Yan Lariba’s biggest personal battle is far from over.
The table tennis Olympian yesterday appealed for support after her illness recurred early this month. She was diagnosed to have an acute myelogenous leukemia in May last year.
In her statement released by La Salle’s Sports Development Office, Lariba said she is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will need multiple laboratory examinations and blood transfusions after having episodes of headache and vomiting on the first week of the month.
“These symptoms persisted… Work-up revealed that my leukemia recurred and has spread to my brain and spinal chord,” the 23-year-old La Salle graduate said.
Lariba added her vision has also become blurry and the left side of her body has weakened, prompting her to be re-admitted to the hospital.
