Manila, Philippines – Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV sounds like a broken record when he sought another inquiry into the alleged hidden wealth of President Duterte, a Malacañang official said yesterday.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said Trillanes has merely rehashed his allegations against the President, which the senator first raised during the presidential elections.
“Lumang tugtugin. Election pa yan,” Roque said in a text message to reporters. “Wala na ba bago? Parang sirang plaka,” he added.
Trillanes reportedly intends to file a resolution seeking a Senate inquiry into the bank transactions of the President and his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio today.
The senator, a fierce critic of the President, also challenged Duterte to finally sign a waiver allowing access to his bank records if he has nothing to hide.
Last month, the President said he was ready to face any congressional probe into allegations he was hiding billions in his bank accounts. Duterte dared Congress to push through with inquiry to dispel the “endless suspicion” about his alleged hidden wealth.
“That is why I want to…Congress to proceed, mag-imbestiga kayo. As a matter of fact ako ‘yung mismo nag-i-insist para malaman ninyo ‘yung totoo,” Duterte said before flying to India for a visit last month.
Trillanes had accused the President and his family of having more than R2 billion in questionable transactions in their bank accounts. The complaint was filed before the Ombudsman.
Duterte has repeatedly denied having hidden wealth, saying his assets would not exceed R40 million. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
