As expected, Ateneo dominated also-ran University of the East, 101-74, yesterday to pull within a victory away from completing an elimination round sweep in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle gym.
SJ Belangel collected 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds while five other teammates, including towering Kai Sotto, added at least 10 points apiece as the Blue Eaglets proved too much for the Junior Warriors.
It was the 13th straight victory in as many outings for Ateneo, which could earn an automatic spot in a best-of-three finals by defeating powerhouse National University at the close of the eliminations on Sunday at the same venue.
The Bullpups downed Adamson, 73-62.
Meanwhile, defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman clinched a semis ticket at the expense of University of the Philippines-Integrated School, 65-56.
