The Philippine National Police is continuously monitoring the recruitment of local groups identified with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in Mindanao amid the defeat of the Maute Group in the Marawi City siege.
PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said the concentration of recruitment is in Marawi City and Lanao provinces and possibly in other Muslim areas in Mindanao.
“We have been receiving reports of recruitment, we are still monitoring it,” said Dela Rosa.
Martial law has been extended due to the alleged continuous recruitment and presence of terror groups in some parts of Mindanao.
The main supporter of the ISIS, the Maute Group, was almost wiped out as hundreds of its members and supporters were killed during the five-month battle in Marawi.
