Games Today (The Arena, San Juan City)
11 a.m. – Perpetual vs Letran (jrs)
2 p.m. – Perpetual vs Arellano (m)
4 p.m. – San Beda vs Arellano (w)
Arellano guns for a sweep of the NCAA volleyball titles against separate opponents today at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Chiefs seek their first title against fancied University of Perpetual Help Altas at 2 p.m. while the Lady Chiefs aim for a back-to-back crown against the San Beda Lady Red Spikers at 4 p.m.
Both Arellano squads won the start of their respective best-of-three affairs last Friday, with the Chiefs stunning the Altas, 12-25, 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 15-9, and the Lady Chiefs besting the Lady Red Spikers, 25-15, 25-16, 15-25, 22-25, 15-6.
The Altas, however, are expected to regroup and try to extend the series after a dominating performance in the eliminations where they swept all nine matches.
Rookie-MVP Joebert Almodiel is expected to banner Perpetual along with veterans Rey Taneo, Warren Catipay and Jack Kalingking, but Arellano is unfazed with Christian Dela Paz in front of its attack.
Meanwhile, the Lady Chiefs hope to avoid falling into complacency like what happened in Game 1 where they squandered a two-set lead before clinching the crucial win.
“Hindi kami pwedeng mag-relax. Hindi pa rin namin maalis yung sakit na yun,” said Arellano mentor Obet Javier. (K. Satumbaga)
