Director General Ronald “Bato” M. dela Rosa said yesterday he is ready to serve as chief of the Philippine National Police up to the maximum allowable extension that President Duterte is authorized to do under the law.
If that happens, Dela Rosa, who was supposed to retire last Jan. 21 at age 56 and extended to April 21 until the Chief Executive made another announcement, could serve as PNP chief until Jan. 21 next year, a few months before national and local elections in which he is rumored to run for either senator or governor.
“I was surprised when that news came out. There is no problem for me, I’ll just continue, continue the fight,” he said a day after Duterte announced that he would extend the tour of duty of Dela Rosa a little bit longer as he continues to enjoy his trust and confidence.
