For all the heavy workload and long hours, President Duterte believes he deserves a higher salary.
The President said his “ideal” salary should be at least P1 million from the P200,000 monthly pay he receives as the country’s leader.
“Sa pagod ko tapos alam mo ang sweldo ko? 200. Dalawa ang asawa ko,” Duterte said during a visit to Camp Gen. Adriano Hernandez in Dingle, Iloilo. “Ang ideal salary ko, ako…ako ang mag-estimate, dapat sa akin talaga, walang biruan – 1 million 500. Oo. Sa pagod ko,” he added.
Duterte, now on his second year in office, said he has a busy daily schedule, that includes meetings in Malacañang and provincial trips now and then.
The 72-year-old leader, whose work day usually starts at 1 p.m. and lasts way past midnight, claimed that his present salary does not even include meal allowance.
“Nagrereklamo ako sa kanila. 200? Wala akong meal allowance, wala akong representation. Ako lang mag-isa mag-uwi, puntang opisina, tsaka ‘yung barge ko na bugbugbugbugbugbug super hina,” he added.
Duterte currently resides at Bahay Pagbabago located at the Malacañang Park across the Pasig River from the main Palace. He also commutes back and forth from Manila to his hometown Davao City during weekends.
