With gunner Teytey Teodoro doing what he does best in the crunch, Tanduay-Batangas City held off Muntinlupa, 82-77, on Tuesday night to sustain its perfect start in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup at the Navotas Sports Complex.
The 5-foot-10 Teodoro, a former Jose Rizal University standout, provided the offensive spark off the bench with a game-high 24 points, including 10 of his team’s last 12 points as the Athletics dodged the Cagers’ upset bid.
Former pro Val Acuña sustained his fiery form with 20 points, spiked by four triples, while big man Jhaymo Eguilos hauled down 13 rebounds and swatted three shots to help Batangas City stretch its winning streak to six matches.
Former pros Chito Jaime and Allan Mangahas combined for 35 points, 16 rebounds and five assists but Muntinlupa still failed to complete its fightback, putting a stop to its three-game winning run.
The Cagers stayed at second spot in a tie with idle Quezon City Capitals with similar 4-2 marks.
In the nightcap, former pro star Gary David displayed his shooting prowess of old as the visiting Bataan Defenders turned back the host Clutch, 96-88.
The 6-foot-2 David, led all scorers with 25 points, including a near flawless 8-of-9 outing from the charity stripe, on top of seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in his finest performance yet as Bataan improved its mark 2-4.
